Whale Oil has become the major source of fuel for space ships since the former fuel for that purpose, dark matter, was rendered inert by the dark matter meta-particle coming into proximity to the Anti-Backwards Crystal in 3009. Before the demise of dark matter however, Whale Oil was still widely used as an alternate source of fuel for internal-combustion engines in ancient automobiles after all the petroleum reserves were exhausted in 2038.
