The Dark Matter Afterburner is an invention created by Professor Farnsworth. It allows for a ship to operate at a level of 200% fuel efficiency. The idea for it came to him in a dream but was lost in another dream. The Professor showed the device to Cubert, who thought that it was "especially impossible" to function. However, the afterburner has since been using whale oil, the new starship fuel.
