  • In Calculon's suitcase, he had a head shot of Coilette, showing he still has feelings for her.
  • The scene when they use "science" to bring Calculon back resembles satanic rituals.
  • Bender says "Here's corpsey!" when he throws Calculon's lifeless body onto the floor. This is a reference to Jack Nicholson's line in The Shining, "Here's Johnny!" (which in turn is taken from Ed McMahon's intro for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show).
  • As Calculon wakens, he mumbles, "Rosebud". The word is central to the plot of 1941's Citizen Kane, as the last word uttered by Kane before dying.
  • Calculon's one-robot show seems to be a mashup of Mark Twain Tonight, using (instead of Twain) the HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Calculon wears a white suit (as Twain would), but has a red light strapped to his forehead (like HAL's electronic eye).
  • Calculon's show premieres at the Shubot Theater, a reference to the Shubert Theater.
  • Following the premiere of Calculon's show, the group goes to "The Tragic Pan" to dine and await the reviews. The restaurant's name references a restaurant chain that existed from the 1970s until the 1990s, "The Magic Pan Creperie". It also plays on the theater slang for a poor review, of being "panned" by a critic.
