Image Categorization[]
Of the many issues that need to be addressed on the wiki, one of the most widespread problem (while perhaps not as problematic) is the system of for uploading and categorizing images. The majority of images are screenshots, and so would be covered if we simply add the "FOX Image" template to them (or switch from the "CN Image" template). In addition to adding the template, a brief comment regarding which characters, locations, inventions, et cetera, are pictured and which episode or film the shot comes from.
That is the least that should be done, but I was thinking another step we could take (while we're transitioning images) would be to create a few image categories to make finding specific image easier. I was thinking about either making a category for each episode/film, or simply categorizing the images to fit the normal categories (so say all the images of robots would be in the robot category, or possibly both. Anyone have any thoughts on the best way to do this before I start to reclassify all the images on the wiki (or try to)? Ellipses485 18:12, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
- Anything that will make getting proper images with proper citations on them on the wiki will be fantastic. I think having more than one category for each image is fine, and we should at the very least make sure we know what episode/film each image is from. That alone will make finding images easier. - Good points. We could also categorise them by characters who appear in, for the main characters at least who appear a lot. Episodes, good idea, but try to categorise them like actual articles as well. Solar Dragon (Talk) 19:52, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Yes, this is my next project (although I sort of feel like I never finished my last few projects... ah well). I'm thinking that I'll add subcategories under the "Fair use image category", one for episodes (with another subcategory for each episode) then another for characters (main characters only) and then one general category for the main category subheadings (planets, locations, and inventions). Though images should only be placed in the non-episode categories if the image features the character, invention, planet etc. specifically (so for example this image could be placed in the invention category but should not be put in a "Hubert Farnsworth Images" category).
